This position will undertake or direct all engineering duties involved in the completion of project engineering assignments within the Big Rivers communication systems. These systems include microwave radio, SCADA, transmission line teleprotection, power line carrier, 2-way radio, fiber optic; radio controlled switching, and telephones. Provide technical assistance, as required, in the operation and maintenance of the communications systems. Know and adhere to all applicable RUS, FCC, OSHA, NESC, NEC and other industry standards for the design and operation of communication facilities. Have a broad knowledge of precedents, principles, ad practices in the area of equipment design and operations. Works on all tasks involved in communication engineering design and construction projects including making economic and technical evaluations to arrive at a recommended plan of action. They will have preparation responsibility for the project estimates, acquisition of all required permits, technical calculations needed to support and take action, general technical specifications and appropriate RUS Forms to purchase equipment or systems and/or construct or install these communication facilities, technical calculations needed to support equipment or system designs, monitoring work progress in terms of budget and schedule and take action to correct deficiencies. Coordinate and schedule construction or installation activities, perform construction or installation inspections and completion of all required documentation and closeout forms. Be familiar with the overall power system, its component parts, and its operation. Support the company’s efforts in compliance with all NERC planning and operational standards or measures. Provide assistance to fellow engineers and works well with personnel in other departments in achieving project and corporate objectives. Interfaces in a professional manner with other people (consultants, contractors, sales representatives, etc.) in the course of completing project assignments.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, or at a minimum, four years of experience in engineering working with communication systems. Must be proficient in MS Office products. AutoCAD experience is desired.
