Washington Episcopal School in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a Facilities Manager to provide leadership, coordination and administrative oversight for facilities planning & maintenance for the efficient operation of the physical facilities at Washington Episcopal School (WES) to begin January 2022.
WES is comprised of 108,000 square feet on approximately 11 acres. Operations of the physical facilities include a wide array of services including maintenance, environmental compliance, preventative maintenance, repairs renewal and replacement, provisions of utilities and energy management, grounds keeping, custodial, fire and life safety, waste disposal and recycling, facility vendor management and logistical support for campus events.
Take ownership of the campus facilities by overseeing all aspects of facility maintenance, project management, school safety and cleanliness.
Schedule, monitor, build and maintain relationships with contractors
Ensure regular maintenance and upkeep of all school facilities and vehicles via the supervision of staff and contractors
Manage all buildings and grounds contracts, including those related to capital improvement/major construction projects
Oversee all budgets related to physical plant, including those for facilities/grounds maintenance, utilities, security, transportation, and capital improvements
Create and oversee an on-going equipment replacement program
Lead compliance efforts regarding local, state, and federal regulations
Manage facilities-related logistics for campus events and rentals
Create and maintain facilities and grounds related policies and procedures as well as ensure appropriate compliance by both WES staff and contractors
Serve as the main point of contact for facilities-related concerns
Provide a high level of customer service to all employees, students, parents, visitors, alumni and friends of the School.
Directly oversee development of specifications, review of bids, management of contracts, and ensure performance of contractors.
Maintain plan for fire evacuation and disaster response, snow removal, and other contingency planning.
Conduct emergency drills as required.
Provide emergency facilities support as needed.
Other facilities tasks and projects, as assigned, in order to meet the needs of the School.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in facilities management, business or engineering, coupled with 5+ years’ experience supervising facilities construction, maintenance, or ongoing operations, including trades supervisory experience. Building manager certification preferred. Previous experience in an educational setting desired.

Expertise in and an aptitude for administration, management, construction management, mechanical equipment, landscaping, technology applications (FMIS), purchasing, supervision, security & safety and general services
Knowledge of building codes and regulatory environment for facilities management
Excellent organizational, verbal & written communication skills.
Computer literacy and advanced Word, Excel, and database skills. Comfortable with learning new software
Must be available to be on campus on short notice, for emergencies and other unforeseen facility needs
Event management experience
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
