Performs duties related to St. Clair Hospital, the Dunlap Family Outpatient Center as well as other facilities of St. Clair Health. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair and operation of the Health System’s structures, properties, equipment, and the provision of security for the Health Systems patients, visitors, employees and property.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required.
Five years of progressively more responsible plant operations experience in various supervisory capacities with a working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, construction techniques, hospital systems and equipment, various codes and regulations, and suitable analytical, problem solving and managerial skills.
Working knowledge of the following: The Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Environmental Protection Agency and National Fire Protection Association.
Valid driver’s license and current motor vehicle insurance.
Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM).

Formulates policy for the department and secures appropriate approvals. Responsible for the development and administration of procedures to implement approved policy and provides the overall direction to ensure efficient and effective plant, biomedical engineering and security operations.
Interviews, hires, develops, evaluates and (when necessary) disciplines and discharges departmental employees; delegates such matters to supervisory personnel as appropriate.
Directs the establishment of preventive maintenance programs. Routinely monitors and analyzes departmental procedures and performance records relative to preventive and remedial maintenance.
In consultation with departmental supervisors, determines the practicality and cost effectiveness of in-house versus contracted services and makes appropriate recommendations. Acts as liaison between contractors and Hospital personnel and serves as information resource concerning engineering projects.
Responsible for ensuring the Hospital’s compliance with applicable codes and standards promulgated by regulatory agencies such as governmental, Joint Commission, OSHA, and NFPA.
Responsible for creating and maintaining the statement of conditions (SCO) as required by the Joint Commission.
Responsible for the security and safety of the Hospital complex; ensures the existence of an effective, visible, suitably trained security staff; develops and administers ongoing safety programs for the protection of Hospital patients, employees and visitors.
Develops and maintains programs to assure competency of all departmental employees. Responsible for the orientation and training of all departmental employees.
Serves as Safety Officer and Chairman of the Safety Committee and Environment of Care Committee. Assists departments with development and maintenance of safety objectives, standards, policies and educational programs.
