This position is responsible for providing maximum service to the membership by completing timely and accurate field staking sheets and reports required to document facility construction, replacement, and retirement work orders. This position is also responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and accurate information to the membership in a courteous manner concerning policies, procedures and engineering specifications to encourage the most beneficial use of electricity.

Essential Functions Statement (s)
Surveys and stakes new lines or improvements to existing lines, and prepares field staking sheets and other reports.
Processes easements and permits as required.
Advises members on problems related to providing practical means of service.
Maintains knowledge of current rates, policies, rules, codes, and procedures in order to better serve cooperative members and maintain a high work performance level.
Operates and maintains all tools and equipment as required for efficiently performing daily engineering procedures.
Assists in special, as well as routine activities and safety programs when called upon.
Assists with line outage work as needed.
Conducts necessary fieldwork to maintain joint use telephone and cable vision inventories.
Performs necessary field inspections to keep system maps up to date.
Prepares work orders for new construction and conversions, including security light installations.
Conducts staking of highway and road changes as required.
Assists members in determining the correct meter base location.
Determines transformer and wire size to be used in order to adequately serve member needs.
Advises homeowners, contractors and electricians about cooperatives policies, procedures, and general electrical concerns.
Works closely with construction personnel in work order preparation, clarification, and modifications.
Complies with traffic laws, regulations and safe driving practices while operating any company vehicle.
In the absence of the V.P. of Engineering and Manager of Engineering – Power Systems the Staking Engineer will have such delegated responsibility and authority as is necessary in order to carry on the necessary and normal work of the Engineering Department.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor’s degree in electric or civil engineering field or related degree, ABET accredited Civil or General Engineering degree is preferred
Computer Skills: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Power Point, Excel, and other PC software packages
Must be comply with West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative employment eligibility requirements.
Must be able to distinguish different colors.
Must be able to complete independent work in unsupervised settings and collaborative work in team settings as assigned.
Must be skilled to produce neat and legible work order drawings and lists of materials.
Must be skilled in mathematics to perform calculations for determining sizes of wires and transformers, guy loads, wire sag, and conductor strains on materials.
Must be able to traverse rough terrain in hot and cold weather conditions.
Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to communicate fluently and effectively.
Must have and maintain valid Kentucky driver license.
