Under minimal direction, reconcile account balances, maintain the accounting general ledger and accounts receivable system (as necessary), generate and interpret accounting reports, navigate accounting systems, make accounting recommendations, ensure proper classification of costs and allocations, and participate in audits and month-end close procedures. Effectively analyze financial reports and accounting data while meeting required deadlines.
Note: There is one position available, and the position will be filled at one of two job grade levels: Accounting Analyst II, job grade NB18 or Accounting Analyst III, job grade NB20. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Properly categorize and record financial information in conformity with United States (US) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Federal Electric Regulatory Commission (FERC) Uniform System of Accounts (USofA).
Apply the principles, concepts, and practice of GAAP and FERC accounting rules to ensure accounting transactions are recorded correctly and financial results are properly reflected in the financial statements.
Provide assistance in the design and function of systems and develop/maintain appropriate systems and procedures to record financial data, in addition to processing and importing of transactions to accounting systems.
Serve as liaison between corporate accounting and other departments and stakeholders, providing procedural and technical guidance and training as necessary.
Assist, when needed, in preparation of financial reports required by various regulatory authorities and assist with preparing management reports, as required.
Prepare analysis, reports, and related documents to support internal and external audit requests; work with external auditors and internal Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) Compliance.
Develop and maintain back-up capabilities by engaging in knowledge sharing and training efforts throughout the department, to include job sharing activities.
Prepare special reports, accounting analyses, calculations and allocations, as required, and recommend/implement improvements for efficiency.
Exhibits an understanding of the interrelationships between and among the various data systems, recognizing when issues arise; develops and proposes solutions to issues.
Engage application services when system or reporting enhancements are needed.
Assist in maintenance of the Uniform System of Accounts (USofA) FERC account structure to facilitate internal and external reporting.
Complete timely reconciliations of general ledger accounts on a routine basis and upon special request, to ensure that balances are correct and that subsidiary records are in agreement with general ledger control accounts.
Participate in month-end close process, including ensuring all sub-ledger data in the general ledger is accurate at each month end, importing monthly activity from the various subsystems to the General Ledger, gathering and documenting back-up support, and preparing various month-end batches and journals.
Document accounting procedures processes and internal controls, reviewing annually for effectiveness and recommends revisions as necessary.
As needed, provide guidance, direction, and training to other employees engaged in similar activities as well as other internal customers.
As needed, monitor Accounts Receivable (A/R) Aging and coordinate with other departments when appropriate; Perform A/R functions as needed.
As needed, perform accounting functions under cost accounting methodologies in connection with subsidiary entities.
Assist in cash receipts processing, as needed.
Perform accounting functions for joint project agreements ensuring conformity with various Participation Agreements, including reporting, billing, and reconciliation requirements; works closely with station personnel and other joint owners, providing information and responding to information requests, including audit requests.
Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
