We seek an experienced lighting designer to provide general consultation to the firm’s designers on all aspects of lighting, including assistance with fixture selection, lighting details, lighting controls, lighting conceptualization, lighting layouts, written specifications, illumination calculations and written specifications. Beyond providing targeted problem-solving in the above areas, full lighting design services will be provided on selected projects, as well as assisting Design Workshop’s project teams to manage outside lighting professionals on others. Development of the firm’s lighting infrastructure, such as a project manager’s punch list, drafting standards, fixture and detail libraries will be an important aspect of the job, as will assisting the Lighting Design Principal in preparing and delivering learning sessions geared to our design staff and presentations to those outside of the firm.
An undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited lighting design program is desirable. A degree in theater lighting, landscape architecture, architecture, interior architecture, or electrical engineering, coupled with experience with a professional lighting design firm will also be considered.
A minimum of 5 years of related work experience, with at least 4 of those years as a lighting designer.
Skills in planning, designing, detailing and specifying lighting design.
Expertise in computer generated illumination calculations, including use of the AGI32 program
Production of lighting renderings and presentation materials
Knowledge of lighting control systems and their specification
Successful management of projects and the associated documentation from conceptual design through completion of construction documents.
Self-motivated with the ability and desire to lead and educate others in the art of lighting design for planning and landscape architecture
Working knowledge of: AGI32, AutoCAD, REVIT, InDesign, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Word, Excel and Bluebeam
