Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has seasonal, temporary facilities positions to work May through August 31, 2022.
Provide custodian service in assigned areas for Extension Education Center. Clean, dust, polish, vacuum, wet mop, sweep, and maintain floors on a regular basis. Empty/clean all waste receptacles, remove trash and recyclable materials. Use and maintain assigned equipment and hand tool while ensuring storage room is orderly and neat. Clean restroom facilities daily; supply with sufficient paper products. Wash walls, windows, and sills on a regular basis. Sweep from stair/walks to building; keep entrances clean from debris. The Facilities Assistant is also responsible for preparation of facilities for meetings, rentals, & events (including the county fair); mowing; repairs; minor carpentry and construction projects; maintenance/repair of equipment; storing rental vehicles; set up/breakdown; and assisting with coordinating facility needs with the Facilities Manager, Executive Director and/or designated staff/volunteers. Responsible for complying with all OSHA/PESHA safety regulations in performance of duties.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School or Equivalent Education.

* Ability to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation: frequently work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, precipitation and cold; frequently lift, move, or transport facility materials, office, and landscaping waste; and constantly perform cleaning and maintenance tasks by frequently positioning self (for example, pulling, bending, reaching, touching, kneeling, using hands to feel/reach, climbing stairs and ladders). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving and/ vibrating mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate and occasionally very loud, especially when using equipment like lawnmowers, leaf blowers, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Valid NYS Driver's License.
* Experience in facilities and /or grounds maintenance including light maintenance tasks, i.e., changing light ballasts, minor plumbing, painting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 95%
* Comply with established health and safety regulations and guidelines including OSHA/PESHA regulations.
* Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
* Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
* Record use and storage of all chemicals and cleaners utilized in MSDS record book as required.
* Interact with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public in a courteous and respectful manner at all times.
* Perform a substantial amount of routine, non-complex tasks to support the facilities administration of the Association. Duties may include, but not be limited to:
Grounds Maintenance: Perform landscape and road/sidewalk maintenance such as: mow grass as directed, maintain shrubbery and area around shrubs, weeding, fertilizing, rolling, etc. Includes operation of small hand/motor equipment (lawn mower, weed eater, etc.) and large motor equipment (tractor, etc.)
Building Cleaning/Upkeep/Security: On a daily, weekly or monthly basis as directed clean and maintain all rooms/entrances/hallways/common areas of all buildings, including emptying waste baskets/trash; cleaning washroom facilities and replacing lavatory supplies; mopping/sweeping/waxing/vacuuming; keeping storage areas free of fire hazards and debris; cleaning entrance rugs; cleaning windows/doors; dusting window sills, cabinets, other furniture, and shelves, and all other tasks as assigned. Includes maintaining security of buildings and grounds (opening, closing, and locking doors, etc.)
Vehicle/Equipment/Lighting Upkeep: Assist in the minor troubleshooting and scheduling of routine maintenance/inspections of vehicles and equipment as directed; replace bulbs and/or ballasts of interior/exterior lighting, when necessary, keep light fixtures clean; routine maintenance of building(s) mechanical equipment, including furnaces, air conditioners, ice machine, refrigeration units, etc.
Vehicle/Equipment Record Maintenance: maintain a log of activities and duties performed on vehicles/equipment and any other forms, paperwork, records, etc. as assigned.
Storage: Assist with the storage and removal from storage of boats, cars, and recreational vehicles as directed.
Special Events: Set up and clean-up for events and meetings according to schedule and as directed, including emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, and restocking supplies, sweeping/cleaning/mopping/vacuuming/waxing floors, taking down and setting up tables and chairs, etc., interacting with and assisting customers and catering staff as needed and directed.
Niagara County Fair: Prepare, clean, and maintain grounds, buildings, driveways, etc., before, during and after fair; assist with fair set up and tear down; manage trash/debris removal. Work hours will be adjusted during this period.
* Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.
* Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
* This position requires the transport of self and/or materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
* In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
* Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.
* Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
* Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to local fairs, community activities, etc.
* Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

$16 to $18 per hour based on experience. No other benefits available.
