This opportunity will support Commercial Casualty Complex Loss, and can be filled 100% Work From Home (Remote). We would prefer candidates on the west coast but will consider other locations for the right talent.

As a Commercial Casualty Claims Consultant, you’ll handle the most serious and complex litigated and non-litigated commercial bodily injury and general liability property damage (GLPD) claims. We’ll count on you to provide technical assistance and consultation to state/regional leadership and Claims associates.
Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the most serious and complex litigated and non-litigated commercial bodily injury and GLPD claims. Provides technical assistance and consultation to state/regional leadership and claim associates. Adheres to high standards of professional conduct while providing the delivery of superior claim service. Required to handle $500,000 and above losses, complex coverage, and high profile/severity losses as requested regardless of dollar exposure. These losses occur throughout the country and may require travel and overnight stays.

Conducts on-site field investigations of large exposure third party commercial claims. Attends mediations and trials. Provides advice, counsel and training to field operations. Recommends various methods of dispute resolution and settlement in those cases where warranted.

Provides reserve analysis to ensure timely and accurate case reserves in alignment with best claims practices

Maintains current knowledge of assigned insurance lines; court decisions which may impact the claims function; current guidelines in the claims function; and policy changes and modifications.

Mentors selected Claim associates to develop commercial casualty technical knowledge.

Creates large loss notifications, claim analysis reports, reinsurance reports, and other information to home office, claims management, underwriting and product.

Leads or participates on project teams as assigned based on business need. Assists Underwriting and Product in review and development of new or existing policy language.

Participates in commercial technical school training classes. Participates in quality assurance reviews

Delivers a positive customer service experience to all internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager or Director. Direct and indirect reports not typically assigned.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree or post-graduate studies preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: State licensing where required. Successful completion of required /applicable claims certification training/classes.
Experience: Ten+ years of commercial large loss / litigation experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven superior knowledge of best claims practices used to resolve the most severe and complex commercial claims. Proven knowledge of insurance contracts, contract, medical terminology and legal aspects of court procedures affecting legal liability for all lines of insurance. Ability to operate various claims systems and related software. Proven ability to meet customer needs and provide exemplary service by informing customers of the claims process and ensuring a positive customer experience. Analytical skills to make independent decisions and resolve conflict in such areas as application of coverage to submitted claims, application of laws of jurisdiction to investigation facts, application of policy exclusions and exceptions. Ability to coordinate with defense counsel in the handling of cases involving serious and sometimes complex liability issues from inception through trial. Command of written and verbal communication skills for contact and/or negotiation.

Working Conditions: Normal office or field claims environment. Must be able and willing to work irregular hours and to travel with possible overnight requirements. Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record in accordance with Nationwide standards.
