Responsible for providing technical assistance for Department of Theater production program by assist the Technical Director and faculty as shop foreman, in scheduling, scenic construction and installation and technical rehearsals as necessary. The Assistant Technical Director assists with supervision of student workers and instruction of students in scenic production techniques and safe working procedures. 1. Assist the Theatre Department and Department faculty in running scenic preparation areas
*Provides supervision when Technical Director (TD) is away from shop
*Assists with maintaining clean and safe work environment
*Assists with maintaining inventory of supplies and scenic elements
*Assists with budgeting, drafting and execution of construction plans
*Supervises students working on production or academic projects
*Instructs students on safe working practices and standard scenic techniques
*Seeks additional information and/or make informed decisions about challenges that arise in construction, painting or props
*Assists with other shop and production related projects as needed
*Problem solving with the TD or faculty on particular scenic challenges
2. Plans and installs rigging, scenery, etc. for productions
*Understands and uses standard theatrical construction techniques
*Collaborates as needed with other theatrical production departments
*Supervises students and instructs as needed in standard theatrical production practices
*Assists with the coordination of paint, props and scenery within the scene shop
*Works with the TD to realize the set designs in as complete and true fashion as possible
*Maintains a safe environment in the shop and theaters, both during construction and for the installation and usage of scenery during rehearsals and productions
*Uses safe rigging techniques to install overhead scenery
3. Assist with maintenance and improvements within scene shop and theatres
*Suggests improvements to function and layout of the scene shop and related storage
*Suggests improvements to theater spaces
*Assists with annual maintenance of theaters and shop, including rigging systems and tools
*Assists with execution of selected improvements to shop, storage and theaters
4. Provide support for Zoellner Arts Center as needed
*Assists with activities within the Arts Center by special arrangement as needed, particularly those which impact the shop or require scenic or rigging elements

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community
Scheduled 34 hours per week and 10 months per year

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
One to three years related work experience
Supervisory experience preferred
Experience in theatrical construction and shop management
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service required
Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, time management and sound judgment
Solid computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database software
Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
