Responsible for the planning, design, and construction of fiber distribution systems, including system improvements and modifications. Provides technical assistance to field personnel with the preparation of work orders and splicing diagrams.
Duties:
Prepare plans, specifications, cost, and material estimates for fiber system construction projects and construction work plan.
Prepare analysis of attenuation, loss specifications, and dispersion.
Administer, maintain, and use the GIS Fiber Management System for design, maintaining fiber records, and splicing/counts.
Maintains customer drop information and port assignments with recorded light reading.
Oversees and recommends work flow procedures and data exchange to and from affiliate and 3rd
Prepare work orders for overhead and underground member line extensions. Prepare conduit plans for underground subdivisions and design fiber systems for developments. Prepare splicing sheets.
Obtain right-of-way, easements, and permits from landowners and governmental agencies.
Design and field stake work orders and make-ready work.
Review and record end-to-end OTDR fiber tests for acceptance and fault finding.
Prepare reports to management on operations and technical data relative to the fiber distribution system.
Evaluates and prepares fiber construction standards and units.
Perform all other job-related duties assigned by management.
A Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology with Two (2) years prior experience with fiber or electric systems including analysis, design, and drafting or Associates Degree (AA) in Engineering or Computer Science with Five (5) years prior experience in staking and/or drafting or 10 years directly related experience in fiber or electric system design. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, programming, safety materials, and other work related material. Must be able to lift and move up to 40 pounds. Must have and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and applications customarily used in an office and engineering environment. Ability to work non-standard work hours or weekends as needed.
