The ideal candidate can follow oral and written directions; demonstrates effective communication skills required to utilize an electronic work order system and can recognize problems and determine proper repair solutions and corrective courses of action.
As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons.
Providing manual labor to assist the campus Moving Services department and other Facilities units as directed
Assisting Moving Services team including moving furniture and materials, loading and unloading trucks, driving vehicles to and from maintenance sites, maintaining and cleaning equipment, and shredding confidential papers
Assisting Moving Services team to deliver, set up, and pick up staging, tables, and chairs for campus events; move furniture and materials; and load and unload moving truck
Handling and shredding sensitive papers collected from WCU offices
Following safety precautions and reporting unsafe acts
Participating in training and applies knowledge and skills gained by one-on-one training or group training to accomplish assigned duties
Assessing the work, giving feedback, and bringing deficiencies to the attention of the supervisor
Communicating emergencies to the supervisor or Public Safety
Building a positive working relationship with the campus community
Listening to the customer and brings customer concerns to the attention of the supervisor
Operating, cleaning, and maintaining equipment
Informing supervisor of equipment needing repair or service
Supporting managers/supervisor's implementation of new departmental policies and procedures
Observing proper security procedures to safeguard personnel and property
Knowing and enforcing University and Departmental policies and procedures
Operating University vehicles safely, and in accordance with established policies
Maintaining physical exertion throughout the workday, including bending, pushing, walking, stooping, reaching overhead, and lifting to 100 pounds
Performing other related duties as required
Evening or weekend shifts are sometimes required for campus events
One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Must possess a valid driver's license
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Some knowledge of the tools and methods used in construction and maintenance
