FULL-TIME HEAD OF GROUNDS: Building and Grounds; 40 hours per week, 7:00AM - 3:30PM (Monday - Friday); AFSCME Unit II Position; Lawrence and Haverhill campus
RESPONSIBILITIES: The basic purpose of this work is to provide supervision for grounds maintenance and construction, waste and trash removal and furniture moving services on the Northern Essex Community College Haverhill and Lawrence Campus.
Supervises the maintenance, repair and construction of roads, parking lots, walks, and grounds, including plantings, paving and related projects to ensure conformance with the campus master plan.
Assigns personnel and equipment and supervises general campus services such as moving and/or erecting furniture and equipment; providing trucking between campuses, and waste and trash removal operations, Repair and Maintain Ball fields.
Establishes work schedules; inspects work to assure that work performance meets established standards; inspects roads, walks, grounds, and parking lots to ensure proper maintenance.
Assigns the type and quantities of equipment for work projects, including such items as power shovels, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment, spray units and trucks; and establishes maintenance standards for equipment and disposal facilities.
Work with vendors during the Winter and summer months.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Incumbents of positions at this level receive general supervision from employees of higher grade who provide policy guidance, assign work, and review performance for effectiveness and conformance to policies and procedures.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Incumbents of positions at this level exercise direct supervision (i.e., not through an intermediate level supervisor) over 1-5 maintenance personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Heads of Grounds Northern Essex Community College may work outdoors in all types of weather; may travel for job related purposes; and may work nights, weekends and holidays.
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in grounds maintenance work, of which at least (B) one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of materials and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of supervision.
Ability to understand and apply the methods and techniques of trash removal.
Ability to understand and apply the methods and techniques of furniture moving.
Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
Ability to give written instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
Ability to read and interpret such documents as maps, building plans, plot layouts, landscape designs, specifications, and blueprints.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to adapt to varying work situations.

GRADE AND SALARY: $1,881.53- $2,667.39 biweekly ($48,919.78- $69,352.14 annually) Grade 16; An appointment from outside the bargaining unit (AFSCME) must start at Step I of the range.
