Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Manages and operates the tennis team, while complying with all River States/NAIA regulations.
Develops the tennis programs, including but not limited to, recruiting, training, skill development, event scheduling, and preparing student-athletes for competition.
Establishes all aspects of the men's and women's tennis program at IU East, including recruiting, training, and coaching quality student-athletes as members of the tennis program. Develops skills and strategies for competition. Instills and demands respect and sportsmanship towards officials, opponents, teammates, and oneself. Demonstrates correct techniques and skills to compete the sport safely and to help student-athletes avoid injury.
Plans and executes the schedule of all competitions and practices in compliance with the RSC and NAIA regulations. Monitors and facilitates compliance in NAIA athletic directives. Participates in due process procedures, as needed. Works collaboratively with the Athletic Director, Sports Information Director, and the Department of External Affairs to manage relations for the tennis program.
Complies with academic policies, standards, and requirements of the university, including monitoring and encouraging regular progress toward an academic degree. Makes good-faith efforts, in cooperation with the university's faculty and administration, to meet all student-athlete academic requirements and to integrate sports into the whole spectrum of academic life for all student-athletes. Uses reasonable efforts to arrange travel and scheduling by student-athletes in such a manner as to minimize lost classroom time.
Performs other related duties such as: notifies players of practices, games, and team meetings; manages the sports network and/or facility; oversight of Ref Wolf Partners, Club, or Foundation; provides game and academic study hall oversight; serves as recruiting coordinator, Graf center coordinator, and/or assists with another sport; coordinates with outside agency on athletic drug testing procedures; manages community service reports.
General Responsibilities
Complies fully with all NAIA, applicable athletic conference, and Indiana University rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student athletes by counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, sportsmanship, and personal matters, as appropriate.
Develops a competitively successful team to represent Indiana University positively and responsibly. Provides student athletes the opportunity for a positive experience and climate in which to achieve their academic, athletic, and personal goals.
Performs recruiting duties by formulating a plan to incorporate coverage of all prospective student athletes and recruiting high-quality student-athletes that meet or exceed university qualifications.
Represents the team, department, and university in a positive, professional, and ethical manner; responds appropriately to media, marketing, fund-raising, and community service requests, as assigned. Exhibits professionalism in a manner consistent with the missions and goals of Indiana University, applicable athletic conference, and the NAIA.
Directs coaching staff, when applicable.
Maintains program budget.

Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires both sedentary work and long durations of movement about the workspace. It requires the ability to move and transport objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.
