Under the general direction of the Manager of Engineering and working with other system engineering staff, perform engineering and planning for the cooperative's electrical system to help ensure facilities are constructed, maintained and operated to industry accepted standards in accordance with sound engineering design. To help ensure that the electrical facilities meet RUS standards and code requirements. To help ensure adequate planning, including long and short range plans and programs for the orderly development of the cooperative's distribution, transmission and substation facilities.
Essential Functions:
Distribution System
Maintain and ensure CYME or Windmil model is kept up to date and provide changes to GIS.
Run load flow analysis and make recommendations for needed upgrades, or improvements.
Perform distribution protection scheme analysis and create switching procedures.
Work with other team members to perform periodic testing of down line devices, field verification of system model, and implementation of new relay settings.
Create studies and reports for the foundation of the Cooperative construction standards and specifications
Provide knowledge of standards to facilitate design and staking of line extension projects and new services.
As needed, meet with developers, consultants and other agencies in the preparation of plans and specifications for individual developments.
Transmission and Substations
Work with Transmission System Engineer to ensure the transmission and substation assets are modeled properly in CYME.
Perform analysis in the development and implementation of relay protection schemes.
Assist Substation & Transmission Supervisor in the periodic testing of relays and other substation components.
Coordinate with AMI/SCADA Engineer to review data to document transformer loading and recommend changes as needed.
Communicate information to Transmission System Engineer and/or operations staff as needed to advise non normal operating conditions as needed.
SCADA, AMI and Metering
Assist SCADA/AMI Engineer in the maintenance and upkeep of SCADA database and related hardware.
As needed, assist SCADA Administrator in the deployment and programming of relays and RTU's to communicate with the SCADA master.
As needed, assist with the troubleshooting and maintenance of the substation TWACS equipment.
Other Duties:
Detect faulty operations or materials and report all unusual conditions to appropriate personnel.
Follow safety procedures and keep work area clean and orderly.
Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.
