The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Central Facilities Services department of The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a dependable and skilled trades professional for the position of Utility Shop Technician.
The Utility Shop Technician performs a wide variety of general construction and maintenance tasks under general supervision. Specific duties include:
Perform general maintenance and construction tasks and services.
Collect and dispose of trash and other debris.
Drive to deliver and pick up materials and supplies from nearby businesses or suppliers.
Move, set up and breakdown furniture and equipment for meetings and events. Tasks may require a team-lift.
Excavate and back-fill for work such as repair of water, steam, gas, and electric lines.
Clean and maintain roofs and roof drains.
Keep sumps open and open storm drains and gutters.
Repair small breaks in concrete or pavement and pour concrete for other jobs.
Set up scaffolding and rigging for high work.
Water vacuum flooded areas and clean up after alterations or accidents.
Operate equipment assigned to the department.
Perform Utility Shop and Central Facilities Services duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Will be added to an on-call rotation to include weekends. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
Vaccination: TCCS requires the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. New employees are required to present evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.
COMPENSATION
Pay: The pay rate is $19.50 per hour.

Education: You have a high school diploma or the equivalent through a combination of education, training, and additional experience beyond the minimum required.
Experience: You have two (2) years of experience demonstrating the ability to apply the knowledge and techniques of the trade.
License: You have a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to TCC's automobile liability insurance provider.
You are reliable, have a positive attitude, and are a cooperative team player. You are physically fit enough to safely perform the duties of the position and are willing and able to follow proper procedures for completing work tasks. In addition, you:
Can be available for overtime work and to be on-call.
Are able to climb ladders, crawl in attics and under buildings, lift and carry heavy equipment, bend, stoop, work from heights, and work in uncomfortable positions.
Are able to work under all weather conditions.
Can wear protective clothing and equipment as required by the tasks being performed.
Can follow proper procedures and comply with Cal/OSHA and OSHA requirements as applicable to work.
Have fluent English language skills, including ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write.
Have effective and professional communication skills with a diverse population of team members, contract personnel, and other internal and external contacts.
Present a neat and professional appearance.
Can perform work and interact with others in aa manner that reflects favorably on the organization.
