JOB SUMMARY: The Sonographer is responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. Sonography, or ultrasonography, is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. May specialize in obstetric/gynecologic, abdominal, neurosonograpy, or breast sonography.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Reviews patient's medical history and physician's instructions2.Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings.3.Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view4.Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves5.Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician
6.Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealth ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purpose7.Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians8.Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment9.Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information 10.Complies with safety, infection control and quality improvement policies/procedures11.Performs other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (or equivalent experience) : Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and 1 year Minimum one or more years of experience and/or training with graduate sonographer, required
Medium Work category requiring exertion up to 50lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 20 of force frequently and/or up to 10 of force continually to move objects.
