Reports to the Assistant Director of Business Services/Bookstore Manager and supervises sales floor staff (Customer Service & Sales Associates), all emblematic product purchasing, and merchandising.
Responsibilities: Purchases display accessories for sales floor and merchandise within budget guidelines Establishes goals for on-hand inventory investment relative to the Bookstore’s seasonal sales fluctuations Responsible for fiscal reporting and inventory management for the general merchandise department Participates in all recruiting, training, schedules, and supervisory efforts of sales floor staff with the primary goal of delivering exceptional customer service Ensures registers are properly stocked with coin and currency and ensures proper handling of cash Supervises general merchandise operations, including ordering, fulfillment, receiving, pricing, and inventory maintenance Meets with vendors to place orders and to determine new artwork for insignia merchandise Maintain current knowledge of latest techniques of buying, displaying and merchandising. Keep up to date on current trends in the college store industry. Working with leadership, develops calendar of themes for focal point display areas and store layout and works with departments on implementation Offers constructive feedback to leadership regarding improvements for the Bookstore Ensures timely displays for special events (set-up and change-out) Works with vendors and leadership to determine retail pricing of general merchandise based upon accepted guidelines of the industry, the bookstore and the University. Maintains the bookstore website including announcements, promotions, products, inventory levels, and order fulfillment Identifies and processes timely markdowns for both promotional and inventory management purposes Reads industry publications for timely information on products, trends, vendors, and business practices Works with sales floor staff to prepare for, and conduct vendor returns and annual physical inventory Schedules staff for in-store and off-site events as required Trains new staff on product searches, inventory pulls and other inventory-related tasks Engages colleagues to assist with new employee training and whenever necessary, ongoing training of staff Attends management and staff meetings
Required:
Two years supervising multiple employees
Two years in a managerial position in a fast-paced retail environment
Preferred:
Degree in business related field preferred, or related experience.
