The Skidmore College Theater Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Technical Director to join a dynamic team of faculty and production staff. The Assistant Technical Director, under the leadership of the Technical Director and Department Chair, and in collaboration with the production team, is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the scene shop, technical equipment, load-ins, and strikes. The ATD is integral to the realization of all scenic, rigging, and lighting elements for departmental productions. The ATD is also responsible for scheduling/leading student crews and for shared oversight of tech rehearsals/performances.
Education:
A qualified candidate is a theater professional with a BA/BS/BFA.
Experience:
Three or more yearsâ™ experience in the field; strong communications skills; and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Candidates should be detail-oriented, flexible and able to work as a team player in a collaborative atmosphere. Position requires experience and dedication to maintaining high standards of safety and quality work as well as a strong desire to teach and engage with students through an educational lens.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with hands-on scenic construction and metal-working and/or applied knowledge of lighting, sound and video practices. Proficiency with VectorWorks preferred. Experience in educational settings highly desirable.

Skidmore offers an intensive Bachelor of Science degree in Theater that balances pre-professional training with a strong commitment to liberal arts learning. The department produces four major productions each year as well as a series of student workshops.
The position is a three-year renewable contract that pays biweekly, includes benefits, and is a full-time ten month contract from mid-August through mid-June.
