Department Information
The Facility Operations department exists to serve students, faculty and staff by maintaining an environment conducive to learning and efficient operations. Our department offers Building Custodial Services, Building Maintenance Services, Construction Projects, Grounds and Landscape Maintenance and Mail Services.
Facility Operations is dedicated to keeping the physical structures and grounds of the University well maintained and attractive, with its goal to provide each student, faculty and staff member a safe, pleasant, and functional environment.
Job Summary
Assists with maintaining and preserving beautiful and sustainable campus grounds in a safe and orderly manner.
Tasks include, but are not limited to, mowing, trimming, and edging grass; raking and collecting leaves; seeding, fertilizing, planting, pruning, weeding, mulching and watering trees, shrubs and flowers; shoveling snow; spreading salt, cinders and sand; and operating grounds equipment.
Assists with proper maintenance of tree and shrub care, landscape beds, bioswales, ponds, parking lots, storm water drains, walking paths, trails, and other campus venues.
Mows grass. Trims, edges, and clears walkways. Seeds and fertilizes lawn. Plants, prunes, weeds, mulches and waters trees, shrubs, flowers, plants, bulbs and maintain beds.
Performs leaf removal. Performs pond and storm waterway maintenance.
Maintains parking lots, roadways, walkways, paths, walking trails, athletic courts and fields, outdoor seating/furniture, and road signs. Tasks include but are not limited to: collect trash and debris, remove branches, leaves, and weeds.
Removes snow, spreads salt, cinders and sand. Seals coat, stripes, paints, and completes minor repairs to paved areas and surfaces.
Operates, maintains, and assists with upkeep of grounds equipment (tractors, mowers, seeders, sprayers, chainsaws, weed eaters, blowers and pruning tools.) Tasks include but not limited to: cleans, maintains, and updates equipment.
Delivers supplies to campus departments and assist with event set-up/tear down.
Assists maintenance services with construction projects such as: painting, carpet and flooring removal/installation, concrete work, etc. Pumps water out of manholes and off rooftops.
Assumes custodial responsibilities. Moves furniture, equipment, and other campus supplies, assists with proper removal of hazardous waste.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Experience with some of the following equipment: sprayer, riding and walk behind mowers, tractor, chainsaw, backhoe, power seeder, clippers, trencher, bush hog, pruning tools, spreader, truck with snow blade and salt spreader, forklift, water pumps, weed eater, blower, hand tools, garden tools, shovel, rack, pick, posthole digger, etc.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. This role frequently requires the ability to handle or operate objects, controls, or tools; ascend/descend ladders or stairs; position self to move at lower levels. The role requires the ability to frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position come in contact with hazardous chemicals, unpleasant odors, loud noise, hot and cold temperatures, and dusty conditions.
