This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of campus by vacuuming, mopping and waxing floors, cleaning carpets; emptying waste containers; cleaning restrooms, shower rooms, classrooms, offices, elevators, studies, hallways, stairwells, steps and lobbies; replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; and removing snow and ice in all doorways, including walks leading to buildings.
The ideal candidate is professional, punctual, has an eye for detail and can follow instructions through proper communication while working with little supervision.
The Facilities team values effort and pride in a job well done. Experience with various cleaning techniques, supplies and machines is helpful but not required. WCU will provide training.
Minimum Qualifications
No previous experience or training required.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment
Ability to follow instructions and to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to perform duties while bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing
Sufficient physical strength to work at custodial tasks including ability to work from an eight-foot stepladder
As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed essential. Essential employees must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons.
Special Instructions
There is a shift differential of $1 per hour available for second and third shift assignments.
