To serve as Assistant Director of Bands and teach other applied music and music lecture courses as assigned based on needs of the department.
Essential Duties :
Serve as Assistant Director of Bands, which will include class assignments for Marching Band and Concert Band during appropriate semesters. Other teaching assignments will include courses in applied and lecture-based music as per department need.
Recruit students through a variety of methods to aide program growth, including evenings/weekends and with travel across the state of Texas.
Work in conjunction with Director of Bands on all logistical aspects related to the Instrumental Music Program, keeping constant and open lines of communication.
Instruction and Classroom Management
Maintain access to students through office hours and electronic communication.
Prepare, maintain and utilize an accurate course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
Utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media and educational resources.
Maintain student participation and attendance in class.
Conduct classes and final exams punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
Student Success
Advise or refer students to available academic support, advising, and counseling services.
Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students.
Assessment Duties
Hold sole responsibility to assess students' performances through a range of formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback in a timely manner.
Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
Professional Development and Service
Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development opportunities and effective teaching methodologies.
Actively engage in collegial activities in a professional manner across the department, college, and communities such as departmental meetings, committees, and Blinn College partner collaborations.
Institutional Responsibilities
Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions.
Comply with all college policies and procedures.
Exhibit effective communication skills, both written and oral.
Attend college orientations, required institutional meetings, and trainings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music from an accredited institution
2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the other instructors, staff, administration, and students
3. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of band pedagogy literature and methods, both in execution as well as current practices and trends
4. Ability to run effective and safe rehearsals/lessons.
5. Recruitment and program development experience
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in conducting bands at any primary or secondary grade level (K-12).
2. 2-year and/or 4-year college music instruction experience strongly preferred.
3. Experience at all levels of private music instruction on candidate's primary instrument(s)
4. Distance education teaching experience, including fully-online and hybrid courses.
