The Highlights
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Loop Facility Operations, this is a multi-function position with the primary focus on supervision and leadership of the Loop Campus carpenters.??????
Requirements
Overall supervision and leadership for all carpentry trade personnel to include fair and effective distribution of workload, equitable assignment of overtime privileges and special projects, ensuring that all staff are adequately trained to keep abreast of technological, safety and industry advancements, the ability to resolve minor disputes amongst others in the trade, ensuring that all University policies and guidelines are adhered to, and the ability to train a suitable assistant foreman who will be capable of assuming responsibility should the foreman ever be absent.
Scheduling, assigning and ensuring proper and timely completion of all incoming electronic work orders, estimates, inspection list items, and special projects assigned by the Assistant Director.
Management of all records necessary to successfully perform daily operations. Examples include: Purchase orders, time cards, purchase receipts, preventative maintenance sheets, inspection lists, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management, etc.
Attendance and active participation at all foreman meetings, safety meetings and training sessions. This also includes leading thorough emergency response and other procedure review sessions for the benefit of the other carpenters as required.
Oversight of various outside contractors as directed by the Assistant Director.
Develops, coordinates, establishes and executes a carpentry maintenance schedule to ensure service and or repair of the buildings on a frequency necessary to maintain it to building code.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Employees of Facility Operations are expected to follow all safety rules and regulations set forth by applicable governmental agencies and promulgated by the University Administration. This includes but is not limited to matters related to: Hazard Communications (SDS sheets), ladder safety, walking and working surfaces, slips, trips and falls, mechanical lift use, asbestos containing materials, confined spaces; electrical safety to include lock out/tag out; respirator fit and use; personal protective equipment; and the information contained in the University's emergency and chemical hygiene plans.
Employees are expected to refer to the FO Employee Manual and the Environmental Health and Safety website for additional information related to safety programs, practices and expectations.
Managerial Responsibilities
It is expected that you will not only exhibit safe personal working habits but that you will instill and require safe working habits of your direct reports and for contractors and others placed under your supervision.
As a campus leader, you are expected to report any observed unsafe work practices or dangerous conditions (regardless of the parties involved) to your supervisor such that they may be followed up on in an effort to maintain an overall safe working and learning environment throughout the University.
Physical Requirements
Carpenters will be required to do their own laboring and lifting. This may involve heavy weight, considered manageable and safe. This includes unloading supply trucks and transporting all trade-related equipment and materials including tool carts which may weigh 400 pounds. Carpenters are required to clean up their job-sites and workshops as needed.
This position also requires that carpenters have the physical ability to work for extended periods of time while standing, stooping, bending, or kneeling and the ability to work safely from ladders, scaffolds, roofs and multi-platforms.
They must also be able to operate a scissor lift or any other lifts or equipment rented or owned by the University.
Other Skills & Abilities Required
Knowledge of Carpentry principles and their application of fabrication, maintenance, installation and repair.
Knowledge of residential, commercial, and heavy construction trade techniques such as but not limited to: concrete, framework, rough framing, exterior/interior work, and case or fixture work.
Skill in the use of power tools and equipment such as: saws, band saw, panel saw, metal cutting saw, concrete saw, miter saw, drills (cordless and high speed), carpentry hand tools, radial arm saw, grinders, table saw, sanders, jointers, pneumatic and propellant nail guns, lathe, and routers.
Skill in reading blueprints and shop drawings.
Sufficient oral, written and computer skills to effectively communicate with other trades personnel, management and customers and the ability to maintain a proper, professional appearance and image while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
