Grand Valley Power, headquartered in Grand Junction, Colorado, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of journeyman lineman. Grand Junction is located on the Western Slope of Colorado with easy access to hunting, fishing, skiing, mountain biking and many other outdoor activities. Position Purpose and Objective:
Works under the direct supervision of a Working Foreman, Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager. Performs numerous duties including construction, maintenance and repair of distribution and related facilities, service work and other related and assigned duties.
Essential Job Functions Include:
Promote Safety: Practice and promote safe work habits on a daily basis while documenting safety activities on the proper forms and staying abreast of, adhering to, and enforcing the Cooperative Safety Manual. Is accountable for his/her and his/her employees' safety performance.
Construct and Maintain Power Lines: Install, remove, inspect and maintain both overhead and underground lines and equipment.
Switching Operations: Perform switching operations on energized and de-energized lines and equipment, utilizing all safety precautions.
Troubleshooting and Outage Restoration: Working independently or with others and systematically performing all duties associated with troubleshooting lines and equipment to restore electric service.
Operation of Equipment: Operate construction equipment such as a line truck, bucket truck, line locating equipment and other equipment as required. Comply with all traffic laws and related safety rules and safe work practices.
Use and Care of Tools and Equipment: Be responsible for the use, care and security of tools, vehicles, equipment and materials utilized. Keep vehicle and equipment clean and orderly, noting and reporting repairs as needed.
Supervision as Required: Provide supervision for crew members as assigned in the absences of Working Foreman or other supervisor.
Other Duties: Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Formal Training Needed: High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program and be qualified as a Journeyman Lineman. First aid/CPR certification required. Valid CDL is required.
Experience Needed: Qualified journeyman lineman.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Needed: Must have knowledge of electric systems and their operation; must be familiar with all phases of line construction and maintenance and have the ability to supervise others in that area; must be able to work with others to provide an efficient and cooperative work environment; must possess demonstrated leadership abilities.
Performance Qualifications: This position requires the ability to withstand regular and strenuous physical activity such as climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing and picking up heavy objects during the course of a normal workday and in all types of weather on all types of terrain. This position requires after-hours work due to workload and/or emergency situations. This position requires the ability to perform on-call and/or call-out duties. These assignments will be made at the discretion of the supervisor.
Location: Must reside within the Grand Valley (Whitewater to Mack) no later than six months after first day of employment.
