PRIMARY FUNCTION:The Executive Director of Maintenance is a key leadership role within the school system, responsible for overseeing and managing the maintenance and operations functions across all school facilities. This position requires a strong combination of strategic planning, operational expertise, and effective team management to ensure the efficient and safe functioning of the school system's physical infrastructure. The Executive Director of Maintenance works closely with school administrators, staff, and external vendors to ensure that the facilities are well-maintained, conducive to learning, and compliant with relevant regulations and safety standards.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
Preferred:Master's degree and/or professional certification preferred

Proven experience in facility management, maintenance, or operations, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations.

Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software.
Experience in construction contract administration with specific experience in project management, team building and scheduling.
Leads the sustainability strategy for the built environment, conceptualizing and developing the vision and strategy to drive sustainability efforts, as well as the roadmaps for implementing and executing these initiatives.
Preferred: Minimum of ten years of management experience in engineering, facilities, business management, K-12 education or other related fields. Experience in school district facilities preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Strategic Planning
Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance and operations strategy aligned with the school system's goals and objectives.
Assess the current state of facilities and infrastructure and develop long-term plans for upgrades, repairs, and renovations.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure that maintenance and operations align with academic and extracurricular schedules.
Monitors management of the maintenance department ensuring that customer needs are met, maintenance goals are achieved, and annual plans are developed for future projects involving maintenance, grounds and custodial programs.
Facility Maintenance and Operations
Oversee the maintenance and repair activities for all school buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Establish and enforce preventive maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of facilities and equipment.
Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs.
Monitor and address facility-related issues promptly to minimize disruptions to teaching and learning.
Compliance and Safety
Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards.
Develop and implement policies and procedures related to facility safety and emergency preparedness.
Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures.
Collaborate with school administrators and security personnel to develop and maintain security protocols.
Budgeting and Resource Management
Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
Identify funding opportunities, prepare grant proposals, and manage grant-funded projects.
Analyze financial data and make recommendations for efficient allocation of resources.
Maintain accurate records of expenses, work orders, and inventory.
Team Management and Leadership
Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate maintenance and operations staff.
Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the department.
Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills and knowledge.
Delegate tasks effectively, establish clear performance expectations, and promote accountability.
Vendor and Contract Management
Negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with contractual agreements, along with the responsible external departments.
Coordinate procurement processes for equipment, supplies, and services as needed, along with the responsible external departments.
Evaluate vendor proposals and recommend the selection of qualified contractors, along with the external departments.
4. Performs other duties as necessary in support of District Accountability System.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” This position is “essential personnel, critical staff” when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules. Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade A-2 of the administrator scale and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. The work calendar will be 250 days. Exempt (A-2)
