Summary Position The Director of Engineering and Facilities Renewal leads the engineering team to develop strategies for identifying, addressing, prioritizing, and costing critical facilities renewal needs (building systems and envelope, landscape, hardscape, infrastructure), and energy conservation/management projects in close integration with the university's sustainability goals. Degree/Major: Length of Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience in managing and directing a facilities operation, construction or maintenance organization of comparable size is required. Supervisory Experience: Yes
Supervisory Experience Detail Supervises and is responsible for the Facility Engineering department.
Special Skills or Experience Computer experience with PCs and both knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel is required. Experience with TMA or other Computerized Maintenance Management System software is desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides engineering oversight and direction to the Facilities Engineer and on- going energy management efforts using the Web Control (DDC) system and energy conservation/reduction efforts. In concert with the Facilities Engineer and the Universitys Planning Design and Construction Management team, review proposed building plans and construction documents to ensure new projects meet university standards and expectations, and provide consistent, uniform, energy-efficient, and coordinated building systems. Ensure adequate building commissioning and system training for Facilities Management staff occurs.
Develop and implement an in-depth inspection program of campus building systems such as electrical, plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems, building envelope systems, and architectural/structural components, and document findings. Cross-reference inspection findings against existing facility renewal project lists and other documentation. Oversee a centralized database of building renewal items and develop prioritized project lists from the database.
Develop and maintain a long-term, multi-year plan for ongoing, strategic reinvestment in Elons built environment. The end goal of the program is to support the universitys academic mission, while also optimizing funds and demonstrating fiscal responsibility.
Develop, and provide oversight and direction to the Facilities Engineer to manage the Facilities Management Preventative Maintenance Quality Assurance/Quality Control program and Facilities Management Information Systems.
Responsible for ensuring safety policies and practices are adhered to by subordinates at all times. Inspects shop spaces for safety deficiencies and takes immediate corrective action. Assures work conditions are safe and conducive to efficient operations.
Plans for the professional development of subordinates through personal contact, budgeting, and scheduling of training courses. Prepares performance evaluations of subordinates and conducts appraisal reviews highlighting strengths and areas needing improvement, if any. Delegates to and holds subordinates responsible for satisfactory performance of assignments. The development of subordinates must be a core belief of the incumbents management philosophy. Leads by example.
Emphasizes cooperation, and professionalism and instills excellent customer service attitudes in all work units. Models cooperation and coordination within Facilities Management and across all functions of the university
