The primary role of the Jones Course Superintendent is the oversight of the golf course maintenance and related facilities at Master Association for Rancho La Quinta. This position reports directly to the Director of Agronomy and manages golf course maintenance staff and is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, leading the team, and performance management. The Superintendent oversees the golf course maintenance, making necessary recommendations and decisions to make to ensure optimal course conditions prevail year-round.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Schedule and plan irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance with regulatory issues.
Work closely with, advise, and coordinate with the Director of Agronomy on any issues related to golf course maintenance and landscape operations
Provide technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions
Train and oversee staff in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment
Schedule, and monitor daily operations, including work assignments and oversight of project completion
Make recommendations regarding agronomic planning
Oversee employee relations within the department including performance reviews and corrective actions
Maintain purchase order system and efficient invoice processes
Accountable for the departmental operating budget, monitor, and control departmental operating budget
Maintain daily logs & reports to track agronomic systems data, climate predictions, and chemical and pesticide application
Maintain knowledge of all technology platforms and applications required for proper maintenance of facilities and grounds
Maintain and monitor execution and follow-through of agreed upon daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly communication meetings and resulting actions items and initiatives

Ensure standard operating practices (SOPs) are in place and regularly updated

Education and/or Experience
Experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent preferable
Working knowledge of golf course operations, turf management, fertilizer and chemical application, water management, golf course renovation, irrigation and drainage
Experience In employee management
Ability to communicate effectively, lead and motivate a team
Extensive knowledge of use and operation of all equipment and tools used in golf course and landscaping construction and maintenance
Knowledge and understanding of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play
Strong organizational, computer and leadership skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

California Department of Pesticide Regulation QAC or QAL or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Degree in Agronomics, Turf Management or related field, or equivalent
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain a clean DMV record
