Under the manager's supervision, the employee performs duties relating to the coordination and operation of the City-owned aquatics facilities and programs, including supervising part-time/seasonal staff, setting budget targets, program marketing, and ongoing training. This is a full-time, non-exempt position working approximately 40 hours/week. Evenings and weekends are required, as hours may change to meet divisional responsibilities. This position is overtime eligible and will be part of a seasonal on-call rotation.
Essential Job Functions:
Assists with recruiting and training all seasonal employees, including establishing marketing plans and on-site recruiting opportunities.
Leads, supervises, and assists team members in daily duties. Handles disciplinary action if needed.
Verifies that high-quality work is completed for every task and provides constructive feedback when changes or enhancements are needed.
Maintains the Aquatics Division's training, equipment, and inventory records.
Assists with preseason and in-season marketing materials, including social media.
Supervisory responsibility of seasonal staff and will aid in the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff.
Monitors and communicates with contractual vendors. Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
Attends meetings and events as needed, including some outside regular work schedules.
Provides support for all Recreation Division activities and events as needed, including front desk coverage, classroom set-up, event coordination, etc.
Works cohesively with managers to devise strategies that will achieve the Resource Allocation goals established for the Aquatics Division.

Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge and skill in performing water rescue techniques, first aid, CPR/AED on all persons.
Advanced knowledge and skills in planning and conducting lifeguard training classes. Ability to demonstrate skills to participants.
Considerable skill and knowledge in operating pool equipment and water testing procedures.
Ability to be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
Excellent leadership skills and can motivate individuals through positive reinforcement.
Advanced skills in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, and visitors.
Ability to read and interpret technical handbooks, organizational policies, and financial data.
Ability to write and maintain records and reports and complete forms.
Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures; ability to impose disciplinary measures when required.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field, AND two years previous work pool supervision, including current instructor trainer certifications.
or
Associate degree in a related field AND three years of previous work in a pool environment, including instructor trainer certifications.
Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work overtime as required.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Preferred Certifications
Current Ellis and Associates Instructor license or ability to obtain within six months.
Ellis and Associates Swim Lesson Program Coordinator.
National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or National Recreation and Park Association Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or obtain within six months.
Candidates must provide proof of certification in the hiring process.
