The Campus Security Advisor is a uniformed, non-sworn representative of the Department of Public Safety. The Campus Security Advisor provides unarmed security services to the twin-cities campus, provides operational guidance to Student Security Monitors, and advises members of the University Community regarding safe behaviors, laws, rules, and policies in furtherance of a safe campus and the protection of University assets.
The Campus Security Advisor reports to the Operations Manager of University Security and receives day-to-day work instruction from the Director, Assistant Director, and Operations Supervisor.
Starting Rate: $22.07 per hour DOE
Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
Communicates relevant laws, rules, and policies in support of a safe and secure campus
Provides guidance and direction to student Security Monitors in the field
Provide field training as directed
Provides safe-walk escorts to students, faculty, and staff
Performs patrols of campus buildings
Locks and unlocks doors
Identifies, reports, and (where appropriate) resolves security risks, safety hazards, and building maintenance problems.
Assists law enforcement with identification and removal of trespassers
Responds to medical emergencies to provide first aid, notify emergency responders, and support overall emergency response
Provides general security support during campus events and gatherings
Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to deal with diverse populations sufficient to respond with sensitivity to their needs and concerns
Able to resolve problems and make decisions quickly and effectively sufficient to defuse conflicts and violent situations and maintain safety on the campus
Able to travel (on foot) to all campus locations quickly in all conditions including construction sites
Able to use stairs during emergencies and during patrols
Able to patrol or stand post for all or most of assigned shifts
Able to Administer First aid, CPR, AED in accordance with training
Minimum Qualifications
Able to pass a background check
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Must complete the following certifications within 30 days of employment
First aid, CPR, AED (American Heart Association)
Must meet and maintain requirements for access to law enforcement sensitive information including CJIS Data Access Terminals
Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.
