A commercial service airport seeks an experienced operations leader to oversee terminal and landside activities. This role serves as management’s on-site authority, ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused operations across passenger facilities, curbside areas, parking, and roadway systems.
Responsibilities include supervising operations staff, coordinating airline gate planning and irregular operations, overseeing vendors and construction activities, conducting operational inspections, and serving as liaison with airlines, tenants, and service providers. The position also supports emergency response and maintains detailed operational reporting.
Qualified candidates will have experience managing terminal or landside operations at a commercial service airport, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to manage time-sensitive operational issues. A bachelor’s degree in aviation management, airport operations, business, public administration, or a related field is required.
Candidates must pass TSA/FAA background checks and be available for irregular hours and emergency response.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direction to operations staff, supervisors, and frontline personnel to ensure safe and efficient airport operations.
Manage daily terminal operations, including passenger flow, curbside activity, sterile/secured area coordination, and public-use areas.
Oversee landside operations, including ground transportation, parking operations, roadway activity, and commercial vehicle management.
Coordinate airline gate planning, assignments, and utilization to support efficient operations and minimize delays.
Manage irregular operations (IROPs), diversions, and schedule disruptions in collaboration with airline partners.
Serve as the operational liaison with airlines, terminal tenants, concessions, and service providers.
Monitor and document vendor and contractor activities occurring within the terminal and landside areas.
Coordinate terminal construction projects and tenant improvements to minimize operational disruptions.
Conduct inspections to ensure facilities remain safe, operational, and compliant with applicable standards.
Support emergency response activities including weather events, security incidents, and operational disruptions.
Maintain detailed operational records and provide timely reporting to leadership.
Promote a customer-focused environment and respond to public concerns or inquiries when necessary.
Emergency and Airfield Operations (Contingency Role):
Within three months of hire, the selected candidate must be able to perform certain airfield operational duties during emergencies, including:
Airfield inspections and condition reporting under FAA regulations.
NOTAM issuance and regulatory compliance monitoring.
Coordination of construction activities affecting airfield operations.
Documentation of incidents, accidents, and irregular operations.
Enforcement of airfield operational controls and vehicle movement procedures.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience overseeing terminal and landside operations at a commercial service airport.
Strong knowledge of passenger processing, airline operations, and terminal logistics.
Experience coordinating airline gate planning and utilization.
Proven supervisory experience in a complex operational environment.
Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage high-visibility operational issues and time-sensitive decisions.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Airport Operations, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
Experience with airport operational systems preferred.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Ability to obtain required airport operational credentials and driving privileges.
Security Requirements:
Candidates must successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) background check, including fingerprinting and a 10-year employment history verification.
Work Environment:
Work occurs in both office and operational airport environments.
Regular interaction with passengers, airlines, and airport stakeholders.
Exposure to high-volume passenger activity and irregular operations.
Ability to work irregular hours and respond to emergencies as required.
Schedule: Multiple operational schedules are available, including early morning and afternoon shifts. Candidates must be available for 24/7 emergency response when required.
