POSITION OVERVIEW The Middle School Coordinator for Student Life designs, coordinates, and oversees a comprehensive student life program for grades 6–8 that nurtures students’ social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
Working collaboratively with Division Deans and supporting and reporting directly to the 6–8 Rabbi, the Coordinator strengthens middle school culture, fosters student leadership, and deepens Jewish life through developmentally responsive, mission-aligned experiences.
In addition to student life leadership responsibilities, this role includes teaching three middle school classes and contributing to the academic program of the division.
The position requires strategic vision, strong program design, effective classroom teaching, careful logistical execution, and reflective practice to ensure a cohesive and meaningful student experience across the division.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Life Programming and Community Culture
Design, coordinate, and implement grade-level and division-wide student life programming for grades 6–8.
Partner with Division Deans to support student culture, reinforce community norms, and advance division-wide initiatives.
Develop programming that reflects middle school developmental needs and promotes belonging, responsibility, and positive peer culture.
Assist in annual student life visioning, calendaring, and program evaluation processes.
Jewish Life Integration
Collaborate closely with and report to the 6–8 Rabbi to meaningfully integrate Jewish values, learning, and ritual into student life programming.
Plan and oversee middle school assemblies, commemorations, and celebrations aligned with the Jewish calendar and school mission.
Design and support developmentally appropriate experiential learning opportunities connected to Jewish holidays and communal milestones.
Support grade-level retreats and Shabbatonim in partnership with the 6–8 Rabbi and division leadership.
Student Leadership Development
Support and advise middle school student leadership structures, including student council and related committees.
Design and facilitate age-appropriate leadership development experiences that cultivate responsibility, voice, and initiative.
Coordinate with faculty advisors to align advisory programming with student life goals and leadership initiatives.
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach three middle school classes, contributing to the academic program of the division.
Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with school standards and curricular goals.
Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Collaborate with grade-level teams and department colleagues to ensure curricular coherence and student support.
Maintain clear and professional communication with students and families regarding academic progress and expectations.
Operations, Communication, and Supervision
Manage logistics, scheduling, and supervision for student life events and programs.
Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, and faculty regarding student life programming and expectations.
Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment in supporting students and navigating sensitive situations.
Serve on relevant middle school and school-wide committees as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced study in education, Jewish education, educational leadership, or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated experience working with middle school students in schools, camps, youth movements, or related settings.
Classroom teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.
Strong understanding of early adolescent social, emotional, and developmental needs.
Ability to integrate Jewish values and learning into experiential and community-based programming.
Evidence of leadership development and program design experience.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Professional judgment, flexibility, and maturity in navigating complex community dynamics.
Commitment to working in a pluralistic, inclusive Jewish educational environment.
Deep care for adolescents and a belief in their capacity for growth and leadership.
