We currently have an opening for a Staking Engineer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Stakes lines and prepares staking sheets, including separation and sag charts.
Secures right-of-way easements and works with members and property owners on location of lines.
Maintains GPS unit, laptop computer, and other equipment and sees that necessary materials and forms are available to perform duties.
Prepares staking sheets with cost estimates on construction and equipment for contractors.
Prepares cost estimates on large construction jobs, line relocation and conversions.
Prepares cost estimates for line construction or relocation when requested by member, highway department and others.
Meets with other utilities to check joint use of poles and cost of accommodation.
Determines timber damage and cost on right-of-way easements.
Inspects completed work orders and advises of any corrective action required.
Perform such other duties as directed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma Required
Two years experience working with staking sheets and basic line design and/or two years of line construction experience required.
Must have a sound knowledge of REA construction specifications and National Electrical Safety Code.
Should be knowledgeable of the location of all necessary electrical apparatus and equipment, feeders, line sections and various taps on circuit diagrams.
Must have the ability to use surveying equipment including a GPS unit for staking. Must be able to operate a laptop computer.
Must have the ability to learn staking sheets and work order procedures.
Must have the ability to interpret National Electrical Safety Code Specifications.
Must become familiar with the cooperative’s mapping system.
Must have basic understanding of land surveying terms and property descriptions. Must be able to understand right-of-way descriptions and agreements.
Must be able to meet and communicate with members and landowners.
Must possess and maintain a valid vehicle driver operator’s license.
Must be able to apply extensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in power systems engineering to resolve complex problems.
Be flexible and timely in responding to VP of Engineering as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate needs and requirements of BECi.
Willing to oversee and facilitate in a wide variety of special projects and special reports as assigned
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, and work procedures of BECi as assigned.
