The Department of Technology Operations oversees public safety technology across the University of Michigan. This position reports to the Associate Director of DPSS Technology Operations, while also receiving direction from the U-M Flint Chief of Police. You will serve as the primary technical resource on the Flint campus responsible for supporting, maintaining, and administering Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) public safety technologies, with an emphasis on access control and video management systems.
This position will be based on the Flint campus and may require occasional travel to the Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses as needed. This role provides comprehensive support for DPSS technology and physical security systems at U-M Flint and partners closely with Information Technology Services (ITS) and other U-M units to support desktop operations, network infrastructure, and peripheral devices.
IT Support & Network Infrastructure
Provide technical support for DPSS-specific applications, desktop operating systems (Windows/MacOS), browsers, and peripherals.
Administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights across supported systems.
Perform essential system maintenance, including backups, restorations, patching, and upgrades, in accordance with release cycles and standards.
Coordinate with U-M Health Information Technology and Services (HITS), U-M Information Technology Services (ITS), and Flint IT partners for server administration and security hardware inventory.
Operational & Project Coordination
Serve as liaison with U-M units, external vendors, software manufacturers, architects, and engineers regarding security system design, use, installation, and administration.
Maintain inventory, documentation, and records for assigned systems, hardware, configurations, and operational procedures.
Attend training to maintain technical proficiency and professional certifications (may require travel out of state).
Provide occasional on-call support.
May occasionally work nights, evenings, and/or weekends as needed to perform critical functions, systems maintenance, or support special events.
Physical Security Systems Administration
Manage and administer access control and video management system applications and components, including door configurations, clearance/access assignments, event monitoring, and server management.
Plan, implement, and administer installation, operations, and maintenance of security hardware/software, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and coordinate repair of field devices (e.g., cameras, card readers) in partnership with facilities, construction, and other DPSS units.
Participate in design reviews for new construction/renovation projects, including testing, commissioning, and turnover verification.
Assess enhancements and perform advanced infrastructure administration, including upgrade planning.

Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant IT experience requiring confidentiality, timeliness, organization, prioritization, and troubleshooting.
Working knowledge of access control and video management system applications and components.
Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting Windows 11 and MacOS systems.
Familiarity with network fundamentals and network-connected devices (e.g., switches, firewalls, printers) and common productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective relationships with customers, colleagues, and external vendors.
Ability to work effectively across organizational levels of management and in a diverse environment.
Must possess a valid driver's license and have less than 6 points on your driving record.

All members of the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report any Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
