You will be the primary technical, managerial, and construction-phase leader for Balance Architects' new construction, mixed-use, and multifamily projects, primarily in Boston and greater New England. This role reports directly to the Founder. As the leader of this department, the individual will be an active member of the leadership team and is expected to contribute beyond their functional remit-supporting the company as it defines, develops, and executes its long-term growth ambitions. This includes providing clear leadership, establishing accountability, and ensuring disciplined execution aligned with company strategy
You will:
Own projects from DD through CA
Be the face of the firm during construction
Lead teams, manage consultants, protect fees, and deliver outcomes

Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Ownership
Act as Project Architect + Project Manager primarily for mixed-use ground up developments
Take full responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and execution
Manage client expectations and deliver an exceptional client experience
Proactively identify risks and solve problems before they escalate
Construction Documents
Lead the production of high-quality CD sets for residential and mixed-use projects
Ensure documents are clear, coordinated, buildable, and defensible
Maintain Balance Architects' design standards while meeting real-world constraints
Construction Administration
Lead CA across all project types, with emphasis on:
Boston-area site visits
RFIs, submittals, change orders, and field reports
Contractor coordination and issue resolution
Be trusted by contractors, clients, and consultants alike
Protect the firm contractually, technically, and financially during construction
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Lead and mentor junior and mid-level staff
Set expectations around quality, accountability, and efficiency
Teach others how to think in terms of outcomes, not tasks
Play a long-term role in growing internal leadership capacity
Financial & Operational Discipline
Use Monograph effectively for:
Budget tracking
Schedule management
Fee awareness
Understand how decisions affect profitability
Care deeply about fees, deadlines, and client satisfaction
What We're Looking For
Experience & Skills
10-15+ years of professional architectural experience
Deep experience with ground-up residential and mixed-use construction
Strong construction administration background (this is essential)
Advanced Revit skills (you should be faster and more precise than most)
Strong knowledge of Boston-area permitting, construction practices, and codes
Licensed Architect preferred (or actively on that path)
