Headwaters Golf Club is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team at one of the most exclusive and highly regarded short courses in the country.

Headwaters Golf Club is a private club located in the mountains of Cashiers, North Carolina. Opened in 1999 and designed by world renowned architect, Tom Fazio, our 9-hole par 3 course is consistently recognized as one of the top short courses in the nation. The property features over three acres of world-class gardens and landscape areas, a premier practice facility, and a standard of excellence in every detail. Our membership expects the highest level of conditioning and presentation across the entire property.
Headwaters is one of the most unique properties in Cashiers and it offers an aspiring superintendent a remarkable opportunity to develop their skills.
Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of daily course maintenance, agronomic planning, and property presentation. This is a year-round, full-time position with hands-on involvement in every facet of the operation — from managing cool season putting surfaces to maintaining garden areas to assisting with infrastructure and capital improvement projects. The course operates on a six-month playing season, with the off-season dedicated to planning, in-house projects, equipment work, and professional development.
Responsibilities
Assist in the day-to-day scheduling, supervision, and operation of the maintenance crew
Conduct fertilizer and pesticide applications throughout the property
Perform daily moisture management of all putting surfaces, practice facility, and playing areas
Assist with in-house construction, renovation, and improvement projects
Help manage and train seasonal staff
Maintain pesticide application records in compliance with North Carolina state law
Participate in the maintenance of our garden and landscape areas
Other duties as assigned

Competitive salary: $55,000 – $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Qualifications Required:
Degree in Turfgrass Science, Plant Science, Horticulture, or a closely related field
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting, bending, and extended periods of walking or standing, and to work outdoors in varying conditions including heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather
Valid driver’s license
Willingness to obtain a North Carolina pesticide applicator’s license within the first six months of employment
Preferred:
2+ years of experience in golf course maintenance, preferably at a private or high-end facility
Experience with cool season turfgrass management, particularly bentgrass putting surfaces
Familiarity with irrigation systems and moisture management is a plus
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain high standards in a demanding environment
Ability to operate a mini-excavator and skid steer is a plus
