The Rollins College Information Technology Department is seeking a service and results-oriented Voice & Network Technician I to join their team! This position reports to the Network Architect and takes daily guidance from the Senior Voice & Network Technician and is an integral member of the team that installs and maintains low voltage cabling, phones, door access systems, and network equipment. They will assist in troubleshooting wired/wireless connectivity issues, supporting campus users and collaborates with vendors to ensure reliable, future ready layer 1 infrastructure.
Providing our Community with Outstanding Experiences
Perform low voltage cable installations and terminations, including the running of structured cable in a variety of challenging environments.
Troubleshoot and perform needed repairs and maintenance on all college supported VOIP and analog devices (dead phone, static online, etc.) using network tester, telephone test set, tone generator and hand tools. Installs and relocates telephones.
Installation and maintenance of door access wiring/equipment.
Use TeamDynamix to track progress of tickets and ensure 24 hour or less response time.
Responsible for basic troubleshooting of wired and wireless network issues such as 1) wired network port testing 2) wireless network signal testing.
Provide basic network, phone (IP and analog), and R-card technical assistance to the campus.
Keeping our Technology Future Ready
Install and maintain equipment for battery back-up systems in IDF locations.
On a quarterly basis, inspect public courtesy, elevator, and emergency phones. Cleaning, labeling, noting deficiencies, and repair/replacement performed as needed.
Responsible for basic on-site deployment and testing of wired and wireless network equipment.
Responsible for low-voltage wiring of network and communications IDF locations.
Building a Sustainable Team and Support Model
Interact with contracted vendors and other service providers.
Use service and project management tools to coordinate requests and initiatives, collaborating across IT teams and communicating progress with stakeholders.
Work with vendor representatives to gain building and intra-building access and isolate and resolve problems.
Work with on campus staff and faculty to resolve issues.
Minimum Qualifications & Education:
At least one year of job-related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
Possess a valid driver's license, or ability to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and acceptable motor vehicle record.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Basic knowledge of network hardware/wiring installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
Basic knowledge of telecommunications hardware/software, wiring installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
Basic electronics knowledge and ability necessary to complete low voltage wiring projects.
Basic computer and software skills (i.e. MS Office, Visio, work order ticketing software).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring schematics.
Ability to understand, follow and communicate complex oral and written instructions.
Superior detail orientation, with the ability to learn and work with new procedures, instructions and systems.
Punctuality, plus the ability to adhere to schedules and work effectively under deadline pressure.
Ability to interact with faculty, staff, students, contracted vendors and service providers and the public at all levels in a pleasant, courteous and efficient manner.
Communicates and works cooperatively as a team with other Information Technology personnel.
Work Schedule:
Full-time schedule Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, 37.5 hours per week
Flexible schedule, including some evening/weekend shifts and regular and emergency call-out overtime as needed.
Work Environment:
This is a campus-based position working in Winter Park, FL.
Front-facing customer service position.
Inside and outside working environment, including construction sites and intra-building locations.
Carries cell phone for work related communication.
Work requires visual strain, as well as strenuous activity involving moderate lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, standing and walking.
Requires use of safety equipment such as back belts and PPE (employer provided).
