The Locksmith (Advanced) independently manages, installs, maintains, and administers complex mechanical and electronic locking systems across academic, student support, athletics, and auxiliary facilities and serves as the technical authority for master key systems and access coordination. Essential Job Duties
- Install, repair, modify, and maintain complex mechanical locking systems and door hardware. - Design, expand, and maintain multi-level master key systems. - Diagnose and resolve non-routine security and access issues independently. - Coordinate mechanical locking systems with electronic access control platforms. - Implement access changes while maintaining strict key control and documentation. - Review construction documents and recommend standardized security hardware. - Maintain CMMS records and key control documentation. - Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Facilities staff. - Coordinate with University Police, IT, Athletics, and auxiliary partners. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of advanced locksmithing principles and institutional security systems. Skill in precision lock installation, repair, and diagnostics. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and communicate effectively.

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred:
North Carolina Locksmith License; institutional or higher education experience; electronic access control experience; advanced locksmith certifications.
