Philadelphia Cricket Club, one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in the country, is seeking an Assistant Superintendent.
The position is designed for either career acceleration towards a Golf Course Superintendent role of their own, or for an individual who values career stability in the Philadelphia region at a nationally recognized facility. This assistant will work on both the Wissahickon and Militia Hill golf courses and play a large part in upcoming golf course construction projects.
The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Wissahickon Superintendent, Will Reece, and the Grounds Maintenance Manager, Robb Moulds.

Industry Leader and National Reputation: PCC is consistently elevating member experiences, programs and amenities, which requires developing and implementing high maintenance standards and best practices to ensure consistent quality across the golf courses. PCC is currently using 40 Autonomous mowers to provide championship ready conditions. The Club aims to be a leader in adopting autonomous technologies and is currently in the process of setting up our newly designed driving range to be maintained autonomously with robotic ball pickers and both autonomous rotary and reel mowers.
Community and Networking: A multifaceted club with a large membership network of 1,700 members provides a support network unmatched in the Club industry.
Overview of Philadelphia Cricket Club Golf Course Operations:
Staff: In season 70 employees across 3 golf courses. Full-time year-round employees are 36 employees.
Maintenance budget: $7 million maintenance budget and $1.75 million capital
Typical work schedule: April - August are about 60 hours. March, September, October are about 50 hours. November - February are about 42 hours.
Equipment: John Deere Lease package.
Irrigation system is Rain Bird Cirrus Pro. 2 courses have Rain Bird ICM 700 series heads. 1 course has Toro 800 series heads that run off Rain Bird Satellites.
Future projects: Currently have restoration work on the Flourtown Clubhouse and construction of a brand-new Golf Performance Center in progress. We will have a upcoming nursery expansion, and hole adjustments on all three golf courses.

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:
Learn the culture, operations and daily practices to ensure optimal golf course conditions and member experiences.
Become acquainted with various contractors on site that will be working on projects to be able to assist when needed.
Help lead aspects of construction work that will be done in house.
Develops rapport with the golf course maintenance team, various constituents including golf operations and clubhouse team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND APTITUDE:
Agronomics/Daily Golf Course Management:
Strong technical and analytical focus to ensure optimal agronomic, water, soil, pest, and environmental management programs.
Priority management - understands where/how/why to focus course maintenance practices to provide optimal conditions and member experiences.
Consistently seeks out modern conditioning methodology including tools and practices.
Experience with some level of golf course construction.
Attentive to results-oriented cultural, fertility, and pesticide programming.
Irrigation installation and repair work in the golf course. Ability to aid in adjustments to irrigation lines and heads.
Solid irrigation and drainage practices - promotes firmer daily conditions.
Team Leadership & Development
Train, motivate and supervise the work of the employees in a safe and efficient manner.
Supervise the staff conducting, servicing, and repair of turfgrass maintenance.
Help lead and direct contractors working on the golf course.
Communication
Strong follow-up reporting with the Grounds Maintenance Manager and all 3 golf course Superintendents.
Works in collaboration with PCC employees to ensure optimal member experience.
Build reports and presentations to provide members with updates of project progress.
Golf IQ/Industry Relations
High golf IQ - steward of the game, environment, and traditions.
Developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance standards and best practices ensure consistent quality across the golf course for ultimate golfer experience.
Golfer/student of the game with a sound understanding of ideal playing conditions.
Contributes to PCC's overall environmental and community stewardship programs including First Green programs.
Understand golf rules and regulations and playing conditions.

$68,000-$85,000 depending on experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prefer an individual with a minimum 2-years of post-graduate experience including managerial experience at a facility known for great golfing conditions and member services but are open to the right individual who is currently graduating.
Looking for a hard-working individual who can thrive in a team environment with freedom, mobility, and opportunities for change and quick growth.
Certificate, 2-year or 4-year degree preferred but not required for the right individual who has multiple years of golf course work experience.
